About

About the Blog:

The New Vernacular (TNV) is a discussion of Media, Politics, Technology, and anything else I find interesting. All points of view are welcome and encouraged.

I believe that we’re entering an Information Renaissance, a period of constantly expanding access to the production and absorbtion of media that has never before been possible. Anyone with a computer and an Internet connection (or a library card) can access information from sources around the world and publish content that can be seen by a truly global audience.

One of my main interests is how political and advocacy groups communicate their messages to the public and how media outlets, both mainstream and independent, use technology to analyze and disseminate those messages.

While technology is constantly changing the way that people participate in business, politics, and society, it only proves valuable when it improves the dissemination of information and provides more inclusive and comprehensive means of communication.

TNV is created, written, and owned by Mike Westling.

About the Blogger (apparently in 3rd person):

Mike Westling currently works in state government in Madison, WI. When he’s not at work, playing Ultimate or watching something written by Aaron Sorkin, Mike is usually checking his Bloglines account or posting to The New Vernacular.

Mike Westling is using his name a lot in this profile because it makes it appear higher on Google, so don’t judge his prose based on this entry alone.

He believes that an accessible, quality education for all is key to solving the world’s problems.

A Milwaukee native, Mike is a die-hard Brewers fan and has high hopes for the Crew this season. He also enjoys watching the Badgers and Packers. He’ll drop pretty much whatever he’s doing if there’s an opportunity to play Ultimate Frisbee.
